Youth Baseball - Northern IL Reds 14U

The Northern IL Reds 14U baseball team finished first in the UCOY Spring Sweep baseball tournament in Yorkville this past weekend. In pool play, the Reds beat the Illinois Hitmen by a score of 9-1 and the Outlaws Baseball Black team by a score of 12-1. The Reds were the number 1 seed going into bracket play where they faced the Illinois Hitmen again and beat them by a score of 13-1 to advance to the championship game. The Reds trailed the ESP Select Black team through 3 innings when the Reds tied the score at 4 in the bottom of the 4th. ESP scored 2 in the top of the 5th and the Reds answered with 2 runs of their own to tie it up at 6 in the bottom half of the inning. In the bottom of the 6th, Collin Janusz crushed a 2 run homer to put the Reds up 8-6. A double play and a ground out in the top of the 7th secured the victory and the championship for the Reds.
